Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (also known as BJJ and Jiu Jitsu) is a grappling martial art that teaches a person how to defend themself against another individual by using leverage and technique. It emphasizes getting an opponent to the ground in order to utilize positional control, ground fighting techniques, and submission holds involving joint-locks, chokeholds, and leverage.
Everyone's personal reasons for training are often very different. Some like the physical aspect as a fun way to exercise without the feeling of a traditional workout, and others like the challenging nature of trying to master one's body and control it in ways most cannot. However, learning self defense is the main reason everyone starts training. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has something to offer for everyone and is a great way to test yourself and grow in a fun and safe environment.
Brasa schools are home to some of the world's most highly regarded Black Belts. Current black belt World Champions include Rodrigo "Comprido" Medeiros, Demian Maia (current UFC), Felipe Costa, Caio Terra, Eduardo "Turtle" Telles and Pablo Castro (Strongstyle Brasa Cleveland). At our school we pride ourselves on maintaining this high level of teaching and technique. Ohio Brasa Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is home to a Bully Prevention program - giving children the confidence and skills to help prevent them from falling victim to a bully.
Ohio Brasa is home to a large and successful kid's jiu jitsu program. Our kid's program teaches children confidence and discipline while also maintaining a fun, friendly, and safe environment for children to grow.
Our adult program offers both training in the gi and no gi. The adult classes are a welcoming environment for all ages and genders. We pride ourselves on caring for our training partners and making sure everyone feels like part of the team.
Ohio Brasa is proud of its team and our results in competition often show. Competition is a great way to test your abilities under pressure, see how you compare to those outside of the school, and builds team comradery.
